Moscow Mule Recipes

The Moscow Mule is undoubtedly one of the nation's favorite drinks. Its simplicity, great taste and the quirky copper mugs that you drink it from have made it popular from coast to coast. But there's one other thing that makes this drink truly great: its versatility! There are tons of different variations of the Moscow Mule that you can make, each putting a slightly different twist on the original. Being the Moscow Mule aficionados that we are, we've decided to put together a Moscow Mule recipe page. So if you're hosting a party or get together, want to relax with a delicious cocktail after a long week at work or you simply enjoy trying new drinks, try out some of the Moscow Mule recipes below and let up know what you think. Here are the recipes we've got so far:

The Original Moscow Mule

Before you start getting too experimental with your Moscow Mules, we highly recommend you try out the original as it's a truly great tasting drink and is very much the benchmark that all of the other recipes should be measured against (and boy it sets the bar high!).

Original Moscow Mule Recipe

For a single serving here's what you're going to need:

  • 2 oz of Vodka
  • 6 oz of Ginger Beer
  • 1/2 a lime
  • Ice

*You won't get the authentic experience unless you serve the drink in a beautiful Paykoc copper mug!

Here's what you need to do in order to make the original version of the Moscow Mule once you have the ingredients ready:

  • First, squeeze the fresh lime into the mug (keep the "shell" to use as a garnish).
  • Add four or five ice cubes to the mug.
  • Pour in the vodka.
  • Top up with cold ginger beer.
  • Stir and enjoy!

The Pomegranate Moscow Mule

This is a great recipe to use during the holiday season as the color and taste of the pomegranate blended with the traditional ingredients give it a real festive look and feel.

If you would like to give the pomegranate Mule a go, here's what you need (1 serving):

  • 1 oz of Vodka
  • 6 oz of Ginger Beer
  • 2 oz of Pomegranate Juice
  • 1/2 a Lime
  • Pomegranate Arils
  • Ice

This recipe only takes approximately five minutes to prepare and is very easy to do. Here's how you combine all of the above ingredients to come up with a perfect Christmas cocktail:

  • Place the ice in your copper mug.
  • Squeeze the lime juice into your copper mug (Use the wedge as a garnish if you wish).
  • Pour in the pomegranate juice.
  • Add the vodka.
  • Fill up with cold ginger beer.
  • Stir well, add the lime wedge and pomegranate arils as garnish and enjoy!

***A Paykoc copper cup, as well as a pomegranate vodka should be used for best results. Some of the main brands that offer this vodka are Pearl, Burnett's, Stolichnaya and Three Olives.

Sparkling Cranberry Moscow Mule

If it's approaching the Christmas period and you want to get in the spirit, you can't beat a sparkling cranberry Moscow Mule. Cranberry juice has a sweet-tart flavor and when mixed with ginger beer you have a match made in heaven! Not only that, but it looks like a Christmas drink too.

Has the sound of this one tickled your taste buds? Here's what you'll need to make one:

  • 2 oz of Vodka
  • 4 oz of Ginger Beer (the colder, the better!)
  • 1 oz of Cranberry Juice
  • 1 Teaspoon of Lime Juice
  • Some Loose Cranberries (Garnish)
  • Ice

Here's how you get from having a pile of ingredients to holding potentially one of the nicest drinks you'll ever try in your hand:

  • Take your copper mug and place five or six ice cubes in it.
  • Add the cranberry juice.
  • Mix in the Vodka.
  • Fill up the mug with your chilled ginger beer.
  • Add the teaspoon of lime juice.
  • Finally, stir and add the loose cranberries on top of the drink as a garnish.

***As you probably already know, this cocktail should be served in a copper mug for best results, which Paykoc can provide you with. For the best Cranberry Mule, try using a cranberry vodka. Finlandia, Bear Hug and Sobieski are just a few of the brands that offer it.

The Strawberry Mule

A great cocktail to cool you down when the sun is shining and one that brings back memories of summer when the cold of winter sets in. The sweetness of the strawberry combines exceptionally well with the tang of the ginger and the kick of the vodka (it's a mule alright!) to provide you with a drink that has a little bit of everything.

Want to give it a go? It's real simple to make, all you need to do is round up the follow ingredients and then follow the instructions below.

  • 1 oz of Vodka (double this if you want more of a 'kick').
  • 5 - 6 oz of Ginger Beer.
  • Half of a medium sized lime.
  • 2 oz of Strawberry juice (alternatively you can use a couple of cap-fulls of strawberry syrup).
  • Chopped strawberries.
  • Ice.

You can quite literally have this recipe prepared in three minutes, so get to work and you'll be relaxing with your Strawberry Mule in no time. Follow these instructions for the nicest tasting version around:

  • Take your copper mug (you really should be using one, ya'know) and fill it with a suitable amount of ice.
  • Take the half of lime and squeeze it over the ice.
  • Add your carefully measured 1 oz of Vodka (as mentioned, you can increase this if you like a stronger drink).
  • Pour in the strawberry juice (or alternatively add the strawberry syrup) and then gently stir the mixture.
  • The last ingredient is that all important ginger beer. Top up your mug with this and stir again.
  • Lastly, to make your drink look more aesthetically pleasing, add some chopped strawberries to the mug, and add a slice of lime and a strawberry wedge to the edge of the mug's rim.

*** For best results use a Paykoc copper mug, in addition to a strawberry infused vodka. A few of the major brands that sell strawberry infused vodka include Burnett's, Smirnoff and SKYY vodka.

The Orange Mule

Some Moscow Mule recipe ideas that you see can be hard to try at certain times of the year, more specifically those that use berries or other fruits that are only 'in season' and widely available during a certain period. However, if you're looking for a refreshing twist on the original that you can definitely try no matter what month it is or what the temperature is outside, the Orange Mule is a great option. The day that your local store doesn't have any oranges is probably the day that the world ends!

If you would like to tickle your taste buds with this cocktail, here are the ingredients you're going to need:

  • 2 oz of Vodka (the orange can be quite overpowering with just 1 oz).
  • 5 oz of Chilled Ginger Beer.
  • 2 oz of Orange Juice (freshly squeezed if possible, but if you don't have time, that out of a carton will be fine).
  • 1 oz of Lemon Juice (again, freshly squeezed if possible).
  • Slice of Orange.
  • Mint.
  • Ice.

Now that you've got everything you need, it's time to put it all together and make something that tastes half decent. Here's how you do that.

  • Take your mug and put 4 or 5 ice cubes inside.
  • Pour the vodka in.
  • Add the orange juice, followed by the lemon juice.
  • Top the mixture up with your favorite brand of ginger beer and stir slowly.
  • To finish off, add a slice of orange and a piece of mint to the rim of the cup.

*** If you can lay your hands on a premium copper mug by Paykoc and some orange flavoured vodka, you're guaranteed to enjoy this cocktail even more. Some of the best orange vodkas are produced by Stolichnaya, Burnett's and Smirnoff.

Apple Cider Moscow Mule

Apple cider is a drink that is enjoyed by millions around the world every single summer. Similar to the Moscow Mule (the original), it's loved for its refreshing nature. So why not combine the two: the Moscow Mule and apple cider. To make an Apple Cider Moscow Mule, all you'll need to hand are the following ingredients:

  • 2oz of Vodka (double that if you want more of a kick!)
  • 2oz of Apple Cider
  • 4oz of Ginger Beer (Or just as much as needed to top the glass off)
  • Half a fresh lime
  • A cinnamon stick and sprinkles
  • Ice

Like all of our Moscow Mule recipes, this one is super easy to make and in about 5 minutes you can have it made, have cleared everything away and be sitting back in a relaxing summer chance enjoying the fruits of your labor. Here's how you do just that:

  • Pour the vodka into your Paykoc copper mug.
  • Add the apple cider and squeeze in the juice from the lime.
  • Drop in 3 or 4 large ice cubes
  • Fill your mug up with some spicy ginger beer
  • To finish add some cinnamon sprinkles on the top and a cinnamon stick.

The Non-Alcoholic Moscow Mule

If for whatever reason you can't consume alcohol or you're hosting a party that will be attended by guests that can't have an alcoholic drink, not to worry as non-alcoholic Moscow Mules are just as delicious. You're probably wondering what goes into the mix to replace the vodka that's a mainstay in the standard Moscow Mule and its many variations; keep reading to find out! Here's what you'll need to make one:

  • 6oz of ginger beer (this can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic; make sure you select the latter)
  • 1 fresh lime
  • 2oz of either sparkling water, club soda or tonic water
  • Tablespoon of simple syrup
  • 3 - 4 large ice cubes

So, as you can see from the list of ingredients, it's the sparkling water/club soda/tonic water + syrup that makes up for the lack of vodka in this cocktail and ensures it still tastes great. Here's how you put all of these ingredients together to create a drink that you definitely want to make again!

  • Pour the sparkling water/club soda/tonic water into your copper mug
  • Add the syrup
  • Squeeze the lime and add the juice to the mix
  • Give the ingredients a stir
  • Top the mug up with ginger beer and add the ice cubes to keep the mixture cool
  • We'd recommend adding a slice of lime to the mug as a garnish

The Blueberry Moscow Mule

While blueberries might not quite produce the same effect as spinach has on Popeye, they are nevertheless billed as a super food and are absolutely packed full of antioxidants, which neutralize potentially harmful free radicals that are produced by your body. Aside from those health benefits, blueberries also taste great, which is why we recommend you give the Blueberry Moscow Mule a whirl when the opportunity arises. Here's what you'll need to make one:

  • 2oz vodka (ginger vodka works well!)
  • 6oz of ginger beer
  • Half a lime
  • Blueberry syrup (this can be store bought or homemade using blueberries, water and sugar)
  • Blueberries to use as garnish
  • Ice

Once you've gathered up these ingredients, follow the instructions below to create a drink that you'll likely be enjoying all summer long after you've mastered it.

  • Start by pouring the vodka, lime juice and blueberry syrup into your copper mug and stir well.
  • Then fill the mug to the top with your ginger beer and add ice.
  • Finish the cocktail off by adding some loose blueberries and a wedge of lime to garnish the drink.

The Peach Moscow Mule

As you've probably guessed from the other Moscow Mule recipe suggestions we've listed on this page already, this a is a cocktail that pairs very well with many types of fruits, including - you guessed it - peaches! Classy, yet not overly complicated, the peach Moscow Mule is perfect for events ranging from a birthday party, a romantic meal for two right the way through to an informal catch up with your high school friends that you've not seen in a while. Anyway, enough talking (I'm salivating already) - here's how you make it. We'll run through the ingredients required first (quantities listed will make enough to serve two people):

  • 2 Ripe Peaches
  • Half a fresh lime (you can use the pre-squeezed stuff if you really have to!)
  • Approx 4 oz of Vodka (Which brand depends on your palette: do you prefer a drier or a sweeter drink?)
  • Approx 12 oz of your favorite ginger beer.

Here's how that combines to produce the end product:

  1. You first need to take a knife and carefully remove the skin from the peaches, and then take out the stone too. Once you've done that, deposit what's left into a blender and let it rip until you're left with a lovely puree.
  2. Now take your pitcher (or your copper mugs if you're making your drink directly in the mugs), slowly pour in the puree and lime juice, mix in slowly before adding the vodka. Mix the cocktail some more until all of these ingredients combine well.
  3. Next, take a can or bottle of your selected ginger beer and top the mugs/pitcher off with this.
  4. All that's left to do is add a garnish to make it look pretty and ice if you would like it extra cold.

The Hibiscus Berry Moscow Mule

If you're hooked on the hibiscus berry beverage that Starbucks rolled out (guilty as charged) and you love the kick that a glass of spicy ginger provides you with then this one's for you. It's a bit more difficult than some of the other Moscow Mule recipe ideas on this page, with more parts involved, but the end result is well worth the extra effort. Here's what you are going to need to make it (1 serving):

  • Roughly 6 oz of either blackberries, raspberries or both
  • 1.5 oz of your favorite vodka
  • 0.5 oz of either hibiscus tea or leaves
  • 1.5 oz of your favorite ginger beer
  • 0.75 oz of Hibiscus Berry Syrup (we're going to tell you how to make this)
  • 0.5 oz of Aperol
  • 4 oz of water
  • 1.5 oz of unrefined sugar

A lot more ingredients than in some of the other recipes we've featured, but that's largely because you're going to make the syrup that's needed to make this cocktail. Here's how you do that:

  1. Take a small sized saucepan and tip in the berries, the glass of water and also the sugar. You then need to do your best to combine these. Mash up the berries with a large spoon.
  2. You then need to apply heat to the mixture and bring it to the boil.
  3. At this point shut the heat off and let the mixture stand for approximately 10 minutes. This will bring the flavors of the berries you selected to the forefront.
  4. Drop in the tea bags (or leaves) and leave those for a few minutes, during which time the Hibiscus flavors will be released. Pushing down on these before removing them is a good idea to ensure you get the full flavor dispersed into the syrup.
  5. Set the pan to one side to cool before you use it.

You'll probably be pretty parched by this point. Making cocktails is thirsty work! So here's how you use the syrup you just made to create this delicious cocktail.

  1. Grab a hold you your copper mug.
  2. Take the following ingredients, pour them inside and mix: vodka, Aperol, a few drops of lime juice and the syrup you made.
  3. Fill the mug to the top with ginger beer, add a few ice cubes and make the mug look pretty with a lime garnish (lime twists look quite cool!).

The Jalapeno Moscow Mule

If the weekend is fast approaching and you're feeling at your adventurous best, why not try what is probably the most "out there" Moscow Mule variation that exists: The Jalapeno Mule! Not for the faint of heart, this is a cocktail that is sure to perk you up and get the party started!

OK, now let's get to the meat and potatoes. Here's what you'll need to make this hhhhhot cocktail:

  • 2 oz of Jalapeno Infused Vodka (Stoli do a good one!)
  • 5 oz of your favorite chilled ginger beer (here are a few suggestions)
  • Juice from half a fresh lime
  • Ice

If you want to be theatrical you can also grab some jalapenos to garnish your copper mug with!

Once you've gathered these ingredients, which shouldn't take you long as there's not many, you're just moments away from tasting a mule that has an even greater kick than the original. Here's a step by step guide to making the Jalapeno Moscow Mule:

  • Take your lime half and proceed to squeeze it with a vice like grip until all of its juice has filtered down into the copper mug.
  • Now take your infused vodka and gently pour the 2oz measure into the mug, before slowly stirring it so that it mixes with the lime juice.
  • Continue to pour in your chosen ginger beer (and this must be ginger BEER, not ale!) into the mug until it's almost full.
  • Drop in 3 or four ice cubes (you might need this to cool your mouth off!) and garnish if you deem it necessary.

The Cucumber Moscow Mule

A lighter version of our favorite cocktail, the Cucumber Mule is the perfect partner in crime on a warm summer's evening, when the sun is going down for the night, and you're winding down too.

To make this cocktail all you'll need are the following ingredients:

  • 2 oz of your favorite vodka
  • Freshly squeezed juice from half a lime
  • 1.5 oz of cucumber juice (you can make this with nothing more than cucumber and a grater)
  • 0.25 oz of syrup (homemade version is easy to prepare using just sugar and water)
  • 3 oz of ginger beer (a milder one is preferable)
  • Cucumber garnish

Now that you're all set, here's what you need to do with the above ingredients:

  • Tip the freshly squeezed lime juice into a glass of your choice (copper mug would be preferable), followed by the right measure of vodka, before gently stirring the mixture.
  • Next up comes the cucumber juice and the syrup.
  • Finally, pour in the ginger beer, give it a final stir and garnish with a piece of cucumber to finish.

While you'll still experience a bit of a kick with this cocktail (it wouldn't be a mule otherwise), it is a lot milder than other variations listed on this page, as the cucumber juice tones down the spiciness of the ginger beer several notches, producing an extremely refreshing taste.
